Tabil spice blend

The best spice blend ever! Tunisian tabil spice mix could be compared to the Moroccan Ras-el-Hanout or even curry, but Tabil is superior to both. It is used in most Tunisian dishes and it reminds me of many a sunny summer spent in Tunisia.

My mother in law makes her own blend every year, and even calls us to let us know when the spices have been grounded so we can go and get a new supply. Almost every family still makes their own blend of Tabil in Tunisia. I still have not yet found out what my mother in law’s secret blend is.

Don’t worry you can still make your own Tabil spice blend, unless you fancy a trip to Tunisia! There are several blends on the internet which although I have never tried them they must be a good substitute. I will shave to stick with Tabilala mama Rouissi, please forgive me.

Tabil ingredients:
20 gr coriander
10 gr caraway seed
5 gr dried red peppers
5 gr dried garlic
The amounts are: 2 – 1 – ½ – ½
